Two things to discuss with a cleaning business before using their carpet cleaning services

Blog

Here are two matters to discuss with a cleaning company before using any of their carpet cleaning services.

Your carpets' condition and age

You'll need to talk to this company about your carpets' condition and age. Their cleaning team will need this information in order to ensure that they clean the carpets whilst protecting them from damage. For example, if you tell the cleaning company that you have an old carpet that is quite dirty, but which has become threadbare. Due to being in high traffic area of your home, they probably won't use their carpet washing machine on it. Instead, they may provide their cleaning team with soft-bristled cleaning brushes that they can use to manually scrub this carpet in a gentle manner, that won't make its threadbare areas any worse but will still leave the carpet extremely clean.

Similarly, if you tell them that you have a carpet that's in bad condition and has developed mould due to getting soaked with water, the cleaning company might instruct their cleaning team not to use their steam-cleaning equipment but to instead apply a dry foam cleaning product to this carpet. Because most dry foam products can be used either without any water or with very little water, this product will clean the carpet, without adding too much additional moisture to it that might potentially worsen its mould issues.

The type of odours, stains or dirt your carpets have

You should also tell the cleaning company what type of odours, stains or dirt your carpets have; by providing them with this information, they'll know whether they can wash these carpets with just their all-purpose cleaning products or if they'll also need to bring more specialised products.

For example, if you tell them your kitchen carpets have ice cream (a protein-based stain), mayonnaise (an oil-based stain) and coffee (a water-based stain) stains on it, then the cleaning team will need to bring three types of stain removers designed to remove protein-based, oil-based and water-based stains. Likewise, if you tell them that your carpets smell of cigarette smoke, the cleaning team might bring an odour-absorbing product, like baking soda, to remove any hint of this odour that might remain after they've washed these carpets. In short, by being as specific as you can about the type of dirt or smells you want to have removed from your carpets, you'll be enabling the cleaners to deal with these issues more effectively.
